Description: |
Michelle Kwan
Skates to Disney's Greatest Hits, Michelle's second special,
was announced in November 1998 and filmed December 18-22.
The music
used in the special were inspired by Disney's 75 year history
of music from live-action and animated films. Oksana Baiul,
Ilia Kulik, and Elvis Stojko were also in the special, with
appearances by Michelle's sister, Karen. To select the songs
that were used in the special, Internet users were able to
vote for their favorite Disney songs during the month of November.
The top 10 songs were announced for the first time during
the special, with Michelle skating to the number one song.
A few songs not in the top 10 were also skated to in the special.
About the special, Michelle said, "Making this special was
an absolute blast! Working with three great champions and
skating to some of the most popular songs ever was like a
dream come true. People are used to seeing me in serious competitions,
but they're going to see a totally different side of me in
this special." The
special aired on ABC on Friday, March 5, 1999, from 8-9 PM,
and received a 6.6 rating, and 12 share, meaning 9.9 million
people watched the special.

Kwan: Princess on Ice
|
|
|
|
|
Description: |
Michelle Kwan:
Princess
on Ice,
Michelle's third special, was announced in the fall of 2000,
and was filmed December 16-18. It was thought that the special
would feature the different princesses throughout Disney's
history, and it did. The special was more "MTV-ish"
than the past specials using fancy lighting and camera tricks.
Michelle also displayed a wide array of hair styles and costumes.
The bands O-Town and SHeDAISY each performed twice in the
special. The
special aired on Saturday, January 20, 2001 on ABC, from 8-9
PM, and received a 4.6 rating, and 8 share, meaning about
6.7 million people watched the special.
From January 12-22,
Disney auctioned off some of the items from the special through
ebay.
Items include costumes, sketches of costumes, and 6 pairs
of skates signed by Michelle. Another auction took place in
February.
