In March 1998, Michelle signed an exclusive 4 year deal with Walt Disney Network Television. Under the terms of the agreement Michelle is exclusive to Walt Disney Network Television and ABC to appear in ice skating specials. Four primetime specials starring Michelle are planned over the four years. Michelle said, "I've grown up with Disney. Now to be a part of the Disney family is a dream come true." Paul Villadolid, senior vice president, Specials and Non-Fiction Programming for Walt Disney Network Television, who was instrumental in bringing Michelle to the studio said, "This is the most comprehensive television deal ever signed with a figure skater. Michelle's grace and classic elegance lend themselves perfectly to television. We look forward to producing some wonderful specials with her over the next several years."

   
Reflections on Ice: Michelle Kwan Skates to the Music of Disney's Mulan
   
Description:

In the middle of the Champions on Ice Tour, on May 19, 1998, Michelle debuted an exhibition program to "Reflection", a song from Disney's animated feature, "Mulan." The version that Michelle skated to was not on the soundtrack, but a longer version of the song. At the same time, it was announced that Michelle would star in the first of her primetime specials for ABC, Reflections on Ice: Michelle Kwan Skates to the Music of Disney's Mulan. The show was filmed over 6 days in June. Other skaters in the special were Philippe Candeloro, Michael Weiss, and Elizabeth Punsalan & Jerod Swallow, with a cameo by Michelle's sister, Karen. Along with the skating, clips from the movie were shown, and the actors whose voices were used in the flim spoke a little about the movie. The special was first shown on ABC on Tuesday, June 16, 1998, from 8-9 PM, and received a 4.8 rating, and 9 share, meaning 7 million people watched the special. It was rebroadcast twice on Friday, June 26, at 9 PM, and received a 4.2 rating and 9 share, with 6.7 million people watching. Michelle appeared on a variety of talk shows to promote the special (see below for transcripts.)

Michelle Kwan Skates to Disney's Greatest Hits, Michelle's second special, was announced in November 1998 and filmed December 18-22. The music used in the special were inspired by Disney's 75 year history of music from live-action and animated films. Oksana Baiul, Ilia Kulik, and Elvis Stojko were also in the special, with appearances by Michelle's sister, Karen. To select the songs that were used in the special, Internet users were able to vote for their favorite Disney songs during the month of November. The top 10 songs were announced for the first time during the special, with Michelle skating to the number one song. A few songs not in the top 10 were also skated to in the special. About the special, Michelle said, "Making this special was an absolute blast! Working with three great champions and skating to some of the most popular songs ever was like a dream come true. People are used to seeing me in serious competitions, but they're going to see a totally different side of me in this special." The special aired on ABC on Friday, March 5, 1999, from 8-9 PM, and received a 6.6 rating, and 12 share, meaning 9.9 million people watched the special.

Michelle Kwan: Princess on Ice
   
Description:

Michelle Kwan: Princess on Ice, Michelle's third special, was announced in the fall of 2000, and was filmed December 16-18. It was thought that the special would feature the different princesses throughout Disney's history, and it did. The special was more "MTV-ish" than the past specials using fancy lighting and camera tricks. Michelle also displayed a wide array of hair styles and costumes. The bands O-Town and SHeDAISY each performed twice in the special. The special aired on Saturday, January 20, 2001 on ABC, from 8-9 PM, and received a 4.6 rating, and 8 share, meaning about 6.7 million people watched the special.

From January 12-22, Disney auctioned off some of the items from the special through ebay. Items include costumes, sketches of costumes, and 6 pairs of skates signed by Michelle. Another auction took place in February.
