I received my June/July 2000 issue of Skating Magazine in the mail yesterday. (This magazine is only available by subscription.) Here are the mentions of Michelle in the magazine:

  • Article on 2000 International Figure Skating Challenge, with this picture from The World is Not Enough...page 9
  • 2000 Skate America Ad with this picture from A Day in the Life...page 10
  • Picture with Derrick Delmore at 2000 Nationals...page 66
  • ABC Ad that congratulates the 2000 US Team...back cover

Sailorvi00 posted on the MK Forum the following magazine mention of Michelle: (Thanks Sailorvi00)

Well I just got my US Weekly in the mail today, the one with Drew Barrymore on the cover. Anyway, she has a small mention. They asked her and 3 other celebrities what they are listening to? There a picture of her and she says New Beginning by Tracy Chapman. She said " It's calming. I don't like rock too much, because there's so much going on in my life." Well, that's all...just thought you'd like to know. I don't have a scanner, so I can't scan her picture or anything; it's pretty small.
Michelle is in the May 29 issue of People! In the Style section, there is a thing about about celebrities wearing coral, and they have a picture of Michelle at the 2000 Blockbuster Entertainment Awards. (Thanks ToddFan!)

Devon scanned in the picture. Check it out!

Also, Susan wrote on the MK Forum that Michelle was also mentioned in the mailbag section. Here's what it says:

As an African-American, I was delighted with the diversity this year: Ricky Martin, Blair Underwood, Tina Turner, and Michelle Kwan, to name a few. Thanks!
Maria Dent of Cleveland

Munchkin2000 posted on the MK Forum that there is a picture of Michelle with her short hair cut in the calendar section of the June/July 2000 issue of Cosmogirl. The picture is on one page, and her birthday is mentioned on the calendar. (Thanks Munchkin2000!)
I received my May 2000 issue of Skating Magazine in the mail yesterday. (This magazine is only available by subscription.) Here are the mentions of Michelle in the magazine:

  • Cover, which is a photo from 2000 Worlds, holding up her medal
  • Article on 2000 Worlds, titled "World Champions x3." Includes a picture of the end pose from Red Violin (from the qualifying round) and a picture from A Day in the Life...page 11-19
  • Kids Questions with Peggy Fleming, answering the question "What current skaters do you admire and why?", Peggy said "Michelle Kwan for her sportsmanship, artistry, training habits and perspective..."...page 52-53
  • 2001 Nationals Ad with a picture of Michelle from Ariane...page 59
  • ABC Ad that congratulates the 2000 US Team...back cover

I also received my June 2000 issue of Blades on Ice today. The Michelle mentions in this magazine:

  • Article on 2000 Worlds. On the first page, next to the full results of the ladies competition at Worlds, a full page photo of Michelle about to skate before A Day in the Life. Also includes a black and white photo from the post Worlds press conference, and a color one from Red Violin...page 48-65
  • Color photo from press conference (I think from Nationals) with a short article on Michelle skating on COI...page 83
  • 2001 Nationals Ad with a picture of Michelle from Ariane...page 99

Amelia posted another magazine mention on the MK Forum. Michelle is in the Summer 2000 issue of Disney Adventures. There is a calendar for July on page 15. For the 7th it says, "I'm the U.S. figure skating champ, and today I turn 20. Who am I? Find out on the 12th." On the 12th there is a small picture of Michelle doing a spiral from A Day in the Life, and her name is upside down. (Thanks Amelia!)
Michelle is in the June 2000 issue of Twist magazine! Check out a picture of the article and photo in the magazine. (Thanks Grace!)
Jarrett posted on the MK Forum that Michelle is in ESPN Magazine! I got the magazine today. It's the May 15, 2000 issue. There's an article titled "Bristol Bizarro" about the new Sportscenter commercials. There are two pictures from the commercial with the article. The intro paragraph says that the spots will start airing in mid-May. (The intro also has this sentence, "Michelle Kwan consoles a grieving Dan Patrick.") Here's what it says about Michelle's commercial, under the two pictures:

Scores:

Mere hours before comforting Dan Patrick and Rich Eisen over their poor ratings, Michelle Kwan was in Nice, France, where she won her third World Figure Skating Championship. "Does Bristol remind you of the south of France?" Eisen asks Kwan, who shakes her head. "Not even the topless beaches?" Too bad, because aside from $1,000 donations to the charities of their choice (Kwan hasn't decided hers yet), jocks don't get paid for the spots. The upside? Hanging with the likes of Serena, Venus, LaVar and Orlando Pace in the makeshift green room. Kwan, who started taking tennis lessons two years ago, was floored by the sisters. "I was surprised, because Serena's a skating fan," says Kwan. The three exchanged e-mail addresses and share makeup tips. ("I used to wear waterproof mascara during matches," Serena says. "Do you guys even sweat out on the ice?")

Also, in one of the other summaries, it says that a mascot that will be in another commercial "scored autographs and snapshots of Kwan and Patrick."

I've scanned in the two pictures from the article. Check them out:

Some other Michelle magazine mentions. kwanette wrote on the MK Forum that Michelle is on the cover of the April 2000 issue of American Skating World. Here's what she said: (Thanks kwanette!)

Michelle is on the cover of ASW in her ADITL dress...a shot from worlds looking absolutely beautiful...as always. The title reads"A Day in the Champion's Life"....not much on worlds in the mag...except pairs...skimmed it fast for MK news...They did a retrospective of 98 and 99 Worlds...a picture of MK from LA

Later in that topic, shorty skater girl wrote about some more magazines with Michelle. If you have more info, let me know! (Thanks shorty skater girl!)

BTW, another MK sighting on the cover of EntertainmenTeen? She has a picture for a crossword puzzle, and another magazine, but unfortunately I forgot the name of it, it has something to do with eyes...I think it was Twist...but I'm not sure...I'll post it as soon as I find out which one it was.
More info on Michelle being in People magazine's 50 most beautiful people issue. The magazine is on the newstands now. If you haven't found the magazine yet, check out the article and picture from the magazine. Only half of the list is on People's site, but Michelle is one of them. Also, in the past few days, syndicated entertainment shows such as Extra, Access Hollywood, and Inside Edition have spoken about the issue, and all have mentioned Michelle as being on the list.
I just received the May/June 2000 issue of International Figure Skating. Again this month, there is not much on Michelle in the magazine. In the article on Nationals, there is only one line about her, and no pictures. There are also a few negative letters about Nationals in the letters section. I was a little upset with this issue, but the editor wrote on AOL that Michelle will be on the cover of the July/August issue, so that makes it a little better. ;) Anyway, here are the (few) mentions of Michelle in the magazine:

  • Picture with Sarah Hughes, Kurt Browning, and Elvis Stojko at winter open...page 48
  • Article about filming Nationals for ABC, with a mention of the network knowing how to film each program by filming practices. The example used is Michelle...page 50-51
  • Nationals article...page 58-59

Michelle is going to be in People magazine's "50 Most Beautiful People" issue! On Tuesday, April 25 at 10pm, they are going to talk about the issue on Dateline on NBC. Monday, they showed a short promo, and Michelle was one of the few shown! I'll write more on the issue once I find out when it goes on sale.

I watched Dateline, and they did mention Michelle. :) They showed her photo shoot a few times throughout the show as a preview of the story. During the story, they showed her doing a camel spin (probably from one of the Today show appearences), and more from the photo shoot. It was fast, but it was good! Not everyone in the magazine was mentioned, yet they talked about Michelle. :) According to People's site, the magazine comes out Friday, April 28 (though I can never seem to find the magazine until Monday near me.)

I received my April 2000 issue of Skating Magazine in the mail today. (This magazine is only available by subscription.) Here are the mentions of Michelle in the magazine:

  • 2001 Nationals Ad with a picture of Michelle from Ariane...page 2
  • Picture of Layback from A Day in the Life from Nationals Ad in the Table of Contents...page 5
  • Article on Michelle's Chevrolet deal. In the article, they say that "the partnership is one of the most expansive in Chevrolet history, and will integrate advertising, marketing, and promotional activities." Kurt Ritter, Chevrolet's general manager, said, "Michelle's vision of success matches Chevrolet's 100 percent. We both believe passion and quality are key factors in achieving success, whatever the arena. Chevrolet chooses to partner with people who are not only successful, but who serve as good role models as well. Michelle is one of the best female athletes competing today--and we're thrilled Chevy's support will help her inspire others." Included with the article is a picture of Michelle trying on a leather Chevrolet jacket at the Chevy press conference...page 9
  • Two small articles on same page. One on a preview of the International Skating Challenge. The other is, "Ladies' Battle Helps Boost TV Ratings," about the three lady race at Nationals helping the ratings gain a 13 percent increase from 1999...page 11
  • Article on 2000 Nationals with a picture from Red Violin, and the same ADITL layback pic from the table of contents...page 12-19
  • Scrapbook from Cleveland, with this picture...page 53
  • ABC Ad that congratulates the 2000 US Team...back cover

littlepebbles posted on the MK Forum that there is a COI ad in April 10, 2000 issue of People magazine. This same ad (though not in color) is in the April 8-14, 2000 issue of the TV Guide. Here's what she wrote:

There's an ad to watch COI on Wednesday, April 12 at 8pm EST/PST in the Oscar issue of People magazine on page 183. It says "The Biggest Gathering of Stars in the Most Anticipated Show of the Year" and in smaller letters "U.S. National Champions Michelle Kwan and Michael Weiss plus other skating elite in the showcase event of the season." Most of the ad is a picture of Michelle in a spiral from One More Time. Below that there is a row of 1 inch x 1 inch photos of Michelle, Oksana Baiul, Nicole Bobek, Dorothy Hamill, Todd Eldredge, Brian Boitano, Michael Weiss, and Elvis Stojko.
There is a great article, with a picture of Michelle doing a layback from Red Violin, on the front page of the March 31-April 2 edition of USA Today. Since it is the weekend edition, you should be able to still find the newspaper. It was a great article titled, "She is figure skating."
While at a bookstore trying to find the AMI Specials magazine, I looked through a few magazines looking for Michelle mentions...and I found one! In the April 2000 edition of Sports Illustrated for Kids, there are 2 pictures for Michelle. On page 11 in the "Sports Shorts," is a little about Michelle at Nationals with a picture of a spiral from Red Violin. On page 72, there is a fun section titled "Body Works," where the feet of one athlete is attached to another athlete. There is a picture of Michelle from A Day in the Life with her hands on hips...but she's wearing skis. Cute. :) For the record, Tiger Woods is the one with the skates on.
Michelle is on the cover of another magazine! The magazine is titled AMI Specials/Ice Queens & Kings, and is dated April 11, 2000. There is a picture from Red Violin on the cover, and an article on pages 18-19 with two more pictures. Check out the pictures from the magazine, scanned in by Dave. (Thanks Karen and Dave!)

Leysa sent me the following about another Michelle magazine mention (Thanks Leysa!):

There were a couple of Michelle mentions in Recreational Ice Skating magazine (ISI publication)

In On-Ice/Off-Ice Advice it says "I can't imagine not feeling nervous before a competition. To handle it, I try really hard to focus. I never look around at what other skaters are doing, or compare how they are doing in practice. This can just make you more nervous and takes the focus off where it should be before a competition, which is how is my skating and will I skate my best?" - Michelle Kwan

Also in a section called Skate Talk they asked Who's your favorite skater and why? Five people (out of about 20) said Michelle Kwan and gave their reasons. They ranged in age from 6 to 28.

I received my March 2000 issue of Skating Magazine in the mail today. (This magazine is only available by subscription.) Here are the mentions of Michelle in the magazine:

  • 2000 World Team Photo Cover
  • Ad for ABC's coverage this year, with a picture of Michelle doing a spiral during East of Eden (this has been in just about every skating magazine this season, though this one has only the events remaining listed)...page 2
  • 2001 Nationals Ad with a picture of Michelle from Ariane...page 3
  • Ballot for the 2000 Readers' Choice Eligible Figure Skater of the Year Award. Michelle has won 4 times, the only skater to win more than once in the 11 times the award has been given out. To vote, just send an e-mail with your name and "I nominate (skater you are nominating) for the Readers' Choice Award." to usfsa1@aol.com. Deadline is April 10, and it's one entry per person...page 9
  • Article on the 2000 Grand Prix Final with a picture from Red Violin...page 42-44
  • Small Japan Open article...page 59
  • Ad for summer COI tour, with a picture of Michelle doing a split from One More Time...back cover

I also received my April 2000 issue of Blades on Ice today. The Michelle mentions in this magazine:

  • Article on Philippe Candeloro where he says that Americans like pro skating better than eligible skating, explaining that, "Amateur skating is still famous because there is Michelle Kwan, but who else? People don't watch the world championships today, they watch Michelle Kwan to win, Michael Weiss to skate, and then they change the channel."...page 17
  • Article on Nationals, with a picture from A Day in the Life...page 34-41
  • Article on the Grand Prix Final with a picture from Hands...page 42-49
  • 2001 Nationals Ad with a picture of Michelle from Ariane...page 99
  • Ad for summer COI tour, with a picture of Michelle doing a split from One More Time...back cover

In the March/April 2000 issue of Sports Illustrated for Women, there is a picture of Michelle teaching Brett Favre how to do a spiral. This was taken in October when Michelle was in Green Bay for the Masters.
I just received the March/April 2000 issue of International Figure Skating. There is not much on Michelle at all in the magazine. Here are the mentions of Michelle in the magazine, with one interesting tidbit:

  • Ad for computer game...page 9
  • Full page ad for COI tour, with a picture of Michelle doing a split from One More Time...page 10
  • In the business news section, under transitions, "Walt Disney Television has 'folded' into ABC, according to an ABC spokesman. Disney's four-special deal with two-time World Women's Champion Michelle Kwan--who still has two specials yet to air--will be honored, according to the spokesman, yet no show is on the schedule at the present. No other figure skating programming is presently in development with ABC Entertainment. The change in no way impacts on the extensive figure skating schedule of ABC Sports"...page 48

I received my February 2000 issue of Skating Magazine in the mail a few days ago. (This magazine is only available by subscription.) There's not much on Michelle in it, but here are the mentions of Michelle in the magazine:

  • Ad for computer game...page 3
  • Article about the Keri Lotion USA vs the World Figure Skating Challenge, with a quote from Michelle, "This year has been a handful for me. Now I am going to go back home and train really hard for nationals. I have to plan my schedule wisely. It's hard but fun."...page 7
  • Ad for ABC's coverage this year, with a picture of Michelle doing a spiral during East of Eden (this has been in just about every skating magazine this season)...back cover

In the Wednesday, February 9, 2000 edition of USA Today, there is a great article about Michelle. There is a picture of Michelle on the front page of the paper in the upper right hand corner with "Money on skates Michelle Kwan knows marketing." The actual article is on the front page of the money section with a big picture. The article continues on the second page, along with three pictures...one from Kissing You, one of her game's box, and one of the Yoplait labels. The article states that Chevrolet has signed a multiyear endorsement deal with Michelle, estimated at more than $1 million. Also, the article says that Michelle is, "amazed by the dozens of fan-created Web sites that speculate on even the most mundane gossip about her life." Great that Michelle knows about the sites on her, but I just want to say for the record that I don't post gossip...just facts. :) OK, I know you want to read the article! Michelle Kwan spins silver into gold. Also, check out the pictures from the article, scanned by Lisa (Thanks Lisa!)

Amber e-mailed me that Michelle Kwan is on the cover of React magazine, with an article on page 10 with pictures. On the other page is an article on upcoming rising stars. I don't know if there's some of the same info and pictures as the online edition. (Thanks Amber!)
There is a full page ad for Nationals in the February 12-18 issue of TV Guide. There is a picture from Ariane in the middle of the page so you see her completely. Naomi is on her left, and Sara Hughes is on her right. The headline is "Will Kwan keep her crown or will a rising star take her place?" (Thanks Annie!)
Michelle was a clue in a crossword puzzle again! In Tuesday's (2/1) San Francisco Chronicle Datebook section (the entertainment section), Michelle is in the inside crossword puzzle (there are two crosswords in each datebook). Clue: "Kwan feat"
Answer: "lutz"
(Thanks Rachel!)
Amanda e-mailed me that Michelle is in the March 2000 issue of Jump. The magazine has a picture from Lyra Angelica, and it advertises her computer game. (Thanks Amanda!)
Cherie posted on the MK Forum that Michelle is in another magazine! Michelle is in the Feb. 2000 issue of Walking magazine. The article is titled, "Winterproof Your Look." There were different beauty tips, and each one had a comment from an athlete. Michelle's section was "Hair Defense." There was a small picture from Ariane with the tip. BTW, the article stated that it was not the athlete that recommended the product listed, the editors chose that. Here's what it said: (Thanks cherie!)

"After towel drying my hair,I apply leave-in conditioner, then blow-dry. Right before I leave the house, I run a bit of glistener through my hair, and I'm ready to go." (For a glistener, try Paul Mitchelle Gloss, $9.96 for 1.7 oz.) - Michelle Kwan, figure skater, Olympic silver medalist in 1998.
Two magazine mentions of Michelle! Marina e-mailed me the following (I just bought the magazine, and the costume is One More Time.)

In January 31, 2000 issue of People with David Letterman on the cover, on page 22, there is an ad for the Japan Open with Michelle Kwan in a gold outfit with beads (that I have never seen before). It says:
Two nights of world class skating competition
Michelle Kwan
vs.
Maria Butyrskaya
The Rivalry Continues.
The other mention is from the February 1, 2000 issue of Woman's World magazine. It is on page 7. Jayne scanned it in. Check it out!
(Thanks Marina and Jayne!)

Ginger posted on the MK Forum that Michelle is in the February 2000 issue of Sports Illustrated for Kids. Check out the sports card of a young Michelle in the magazine! There was also a joke sports card of Michelle in SIFK's April Fools issue of the magazine last year. (Thanks Ginger!)
I received my February 2000 issue of Blades on Ice. I've scanned in some pictures from the magazine. Here are the mentions of Michelle in the magazine:

  • Article about Skate America. Includes A Day in the Life pic and a picture of the top three ladies with their medals...page 34-9
  • Article about the Masters with a black and white picture of A Day in the Life (it didn't scan in well.)...page 40-41
  • Article about Skate Canada. Includes a picture of Michelle kneeling in Kissing You...page 60-65
  • Article about Frank changing rinks...page 94

Forgot to write yesterday that in the Jan. 14-16 edition of USA Today, there is an ad for the Grand Prix Final on TV on the front page of the sports section. It is a picture of Michelle doing a spiral from East of Eden.
I received my January 2000 issue of Skating Magazine in the mail yesterday. (This magazine is only available by subscription.) I've scanned in some pictures from the magazine. Here are the mentions of Michelle in the magazine:

  • Cover
  • Kissing You spiral in the Table of Contents...page 5
  • Article about who made the Grand Prix Finals...page 8
  • Article titled USFSA Nominates Kwan, Weiss for USOC Awards...page 8
  • Article titled Figure Skating's Coolest Site about USFSA.org. Some Michelle stuff from the article: On their "Backstage Pass" part of the page: "At National Car Rental Skate America, one 15-second video clip of Michelle Kwan's practice session was download 6,000 times in two days." Says that Michelle's bio is the most popular athlete bio on the site. Also gives a peek into the future of the site with athlete diaries, "Want to know what Michelle Kwan eats for breakfast?" Includes screenshots of Michelle's athlete bio and Skate America's backstage pass...page 10-12
  • Article about 2000 Nationals titled Ready to Rock. Includes picture from Ariane...page 18-21
  • Article about Skate Canada. Includes same picture from the table of contents...page 57-8
  • Small article about Frank changing rinks...page 78
  • Ad for computer game...page 79
  • Ad for ABC's coverage this year, with a picture of Michelle doing a spiral during East of Eden (this has been in just about every skating magazine this season)...back cover

Another magazine mention of Michelle! Margaret sent me this e-mail about Michelle being in the February 2000 issue of Life Magazine! (Thanks Margaret!)

Today I received my copy of the February 2000 Life Magazine with Celine Dion and her husband on the cover. On page 38 there is a calendar of the months events. Next to the 6th there is a picture of Michelle doing an inside spiral from East of Eden. The caption reads:
U.S. Figure Skating Championships Cleveland (through the 13th) Michael Weiss and Michelle Kwan (above) defend their titles. Timothy Goebel, skating before his home town crowd, will try to top last year's third place finish.

Jennifer e-mailed me this great mention of Michelle from the Huntsville Times. I really wish it was in my local paper! (Thanks Jennifer!)

The paper here is the Huntsville Times. On Jan 1, 2000 there was a section with pictures of sixteen people who were named the most recognizable faces of 1999. Michelle's picture was second falling just behind a number 1 Will Smith. The picture was only of her face. It looks as though they caught her in one of her closing stances as she was looking up. There was not enough showing for me to be able to determine which costume she was wearing. It's a great picture, though.
akemi_chan posted the following on the MK Forum. (Thanks akemi_chan!)

Here's something...about MK...for all you SoCal people out there (and whoever else gets the OC Register or the Mini-page in their newspaper) MK was in the Mini-page! okay, this is today's (Sun.) and it's kinda like a kid's newpaper (you're probably wondering why i was reading that...i read the comics and it's in the comics section) and there was a thing asking "Can you name this person?" (or something to that effect) and they showed Michelle's pic. it was only a small head shot but it looked like the ad from the Disney top 10 special...the one where she's looking up to the left or something...anyhoo, just thought you guys would like to know!
There are several mentions of Michelle in the January/February 2000 issue of International Figure Skating. Here are the mentions of Michelle in the magazine:

  • Full page ad for computer game. To tide you over until I scan the ad in, the ad includes a large picture from the game box, with 3 screenshots on the side of the ad...screenshot #1, screenshot #2, screenshot #3...page 12
  • Article "Getting Down to Business" about her skating and attending UCLA. Includes picture of the "Read for the fun of it" library poster, and a picture from Skate America...page 16
  • Article about Dick Button as the man of the century, where he talks about how 50 years ago, all skaters attended school, including college. The articles says that he "applauds Michelle Kwan's decision to enter college. 'It takes great struggle...It is very debilitating to try to get any kind of serious education.'" He also talks about not hesitating in sharing his opinions when he commentates. He says, "My goals are to try to enlighten the public and to point out things that are sometimes hard to see. I would have loved to have the challenge of commentating on Tara Lipinski and Michelle Kwan at the 1998 Olympics."...page 18-22
  • Picture with Alexei Yagudin, at Skate America competitors party...page 39
  • Small article about Frank Carroll becoming skating director/head coach at the Healthsouth Training Center in El Segundo, Ca. It says that he will now be only 15 minutes away from UCLA. Michelle will train there 5 days a week when she's at school, and then go to Lake Arrowhead for the weekend...page 49

Several new magazine mentions of Michelle! In the January 2000 issue of Wired magazine, there is an article about what technological gifts celebrities will give in the future (I think...I was browsing through the magazine at the store, and while I wrote down the important info, I forget the exact gist of the whole article. From the magazine's website, I think it might be the article, "The Wired Diaries 2000") Anyway, one of the celebrities that is quoted is Michelle. Here's what was in the magazine:

Michelle Kwan, figure skater: If I have a daughter, my gift to her in 2040 will definitely be SUHS--Sports Utility Hovering Skates--so she can do quintulplet axels.

Grace told me about an article on Michelle in the magazine Blast. It's one of those teen magazines with Backstreet Boys, , etc on the cover. The article is on page 93. There is no date of the magazine, but it says it will be on the stands until January 23. There's also a nice picture with the article. Check out the article, which Grace typed up. (Thanks Grace!)
Michelle is featured in the January 2000 issue of Biography. There is an article about the best female skaters of the century, and there is a picture of Michelle skating to Winter on the front page of the article, which is on page 50. (Thanks Andy!)
