Remember The Titans on September 23, 2000

On Saturday, September 23, 2000, Michelle attended the premiere of the movie Remember The Titans at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. It was the first Hollywood-style film premiere ever held at the world renowned stadium. The film was shown on four giant screens (65' by 100') on the field at the Rose Bowl. Each screen was custom-made especially for this event. As it began to get dark, Air Force jets flew above the stadium, and four parachuters jumped out of a helicopter and came down onto the field. A live band entertained the arriving guests as games were projected on the Jumbotron. Master of Ceremonies for the evening was former Green Bay Packers player, Jim Hill. Fireworks ended the evening. Stars from the movie Denzel Washington, Will Patton, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer attended the premiere, along with sports stars Mike Singletary, Jack Hamm, and, of course, Michelle. Joining the celebrities were several original members, and the two coaches, of the 1971 high school football team that the movie is based on. Also attending were 50,000 high school football players, cheerleaders, parents, coaches, athletic directors, and principals from all over southern California. Disney's reasoning for inviting thousands of high school students was that they thought the movie was special, and they wanted high school students to preview it. One student said, "the whole night was everything and more than I expected!"
